Recent reports indicate the Steelers would be open to a reunion with Aaron Rodgers for the 2026 season. This time, however, the organization hopes to receive a decision much sooner than it did last year. With many around the league expecting an answer sometime this spring. NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero recently added fuel to the speculation. Saying the “odds are increasing” that Rodgers could return to Pittsburgh next season.

Rodgers will be 42 years old when the 2026 season begins and will turn 43 in December. While the Steelers have been vocal about their interest in bringing him back. Pittsburgh should pause before re-signing the veteran quarterback.

Statistically, Rodgers had a respectable but mediocre season. He threw for 3,322 yards, ranking 15th in the NFL, and posted a QBR of 44.4, which ranked 23rd among qualifying quarterbacks. He is still capable of starting in the NFL, but it’s fair to say his best football is behind him. He isn’t getting younger, and it’s reasonable to question whether he can match last season’s level of play moving forward.

Beyond Rodgers himself, the Steelers are in denial of their roster. Their recent statements and continued commitment to Rodgers suggest a team attempting to win now. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh lacks high-end playmakers on offense, and the defense is aging rapidly. This is not a roster built to elevate a declining quarterback.

Rodgers remains a serviceable option even at this stage of his career. However he can no longer carry a team on his back. In theory, he could fill a role similar to Peyton Manning’s final season in Denver. Where a strong supporting cast masked his physical decline. But it is hard to envision the Steelers roster making that happen.

After the embarrassing loss in the wildcard round against the Texans. It seems apparent to most fans that the team is not just one or two pieces away. This leaves many wondering why they would want to turn to Rodgers and pushback the rebuild further than they already have.

What do you think? Should the Steelers try to go in one last time with Rodgers? Or are they wasting another season on an inevitable rebuild?
