The NCAA released a statement on the decision:
“This ruling highlights the challenges created by conflicting court decisions that undermine rules agreed upon by NCAA members. While we continue to defend our eligibility rules, we are working to provide more benefits to student-athletes. Consistent laws and court decisions are essential to ensure stability for current and future college athletes.”
This ruling, Chambliss can return to college for his final season, giving him a chance to improve his draft stock before entering the 2027 NFL Draft.
Chambliss threw for 3,927 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2025, leading the Rebels to the semifinals before falling to the Hurricanes. Known for his dual-threat ability, Chambliss was considered a potential riser in the draft despite being one of the smaller quarterbacks in the class at 6’1″, 200 lbs. Many mock drafts projected him to go within the first three rounds, but that speculation is over now with his return to college.
With Pittsburgh in desperate need of a quarterback this offseason, it’s clear the solution won’t come from Ole Miss this year.
